A Beautiful Shropshire Wedding at Soulton Hall

Fine art meets wedding photography as Jack and Els are surrounded by Els's veil. The winds whirled around them in a frenetic dance of sheer magic. Sit there for a moment guys I beckoned them, trust me...they did. Love this so much.

Sometimes

Sometimes I get left behind as the wedding day unfolds before my eyes, the truth of the story evolves like some whirling madness that envelops me and drags me along as the day quickly disappears into the rear view mirror. This was one of those days. Windy. Wet. Amazing. Punctuated by moments so utterly beautiful so mesmerising they will stay with me forever I am sure.

Shropshire is my home, I have made so many friends here over the years, young and old alike. This young couple are from a family who have invited me along many times now to capture weddings. I love these guys, not for what they have given to me, but for allowing me to be me. To be able to capture images that are so beautiful, so wonderful and so satisfying, is testament not to me, but to them.

The Shropshire Wedding of Els and Jack at Soulton Hall

Jack and Els, what can I say, two lovely beautiful people who came into my life through my love of my art. Bless them, they even changed their date for me. This doesn't happen often but when it does it truly is so wonderful. To be asked along to their Soulton Hall Wedding and then to have them change their date, their wedding date, to have me along. Wow. That's some testament.

Sitting here writing this makes me smile so broadly, I know they love their images, and I hope you guys do too. Here's what Els had to say about her own journey.

I am not a Shropshire Lass – I’m a Southern girl. I was living in West Sussex when I met Jack, despite him being a Shropshire Lad he lived mostly down in Portsmouth where he was based as Jack is a Submariner in the Navy. It wasn’t exactly an Officer and a Gentleman love story, more a modern romance including Tinder haha. I was extremely new to it – persuaded by my good friend! In the first half of the week on there I struggled with it and didn’t message anyone first… later on that week I clearly found some Dutch courage and messaged this one guy, this one guy who had the best conversation, the one guy who then ask me out on a date, the only guy I ever messaged and ever went on a date…Jack!

When it came to choosing our photographer for the wedding, there was no question. Jacks brother, sister and cousin had already chosen Phil – all with the most spectacular results. There was such little doubt – we changed our wedding date to be able to have this extraordinaire. We got married in the beautiful, atmospheric and loving Church of Hadnall, followed by our reception at Soulton Hall. One thing we wanted the reception to be was a party… my goodness was it! With the wind blowing a gale, which gave Phil the opportunity to work his magic and get us some epic, moody shots, our best man’s brother playing live music and DJ Mister Fox following on to create dance floor that was never empty!

I had a dress that had everything I thought I would want and everything I thought I didn’t want on and I just loved it, my flowers were by the super talented flower fairy Julie Nicholas, hair was by Hayley Morgan and my makeup was by the gorgeous Nichola Whitcombe-Tant. We also had a videographer – Ollie at Floodgate Films and I am so glad we did.

Phil and Ollie worked together like a dream and captured some incredible moments of our day that we get to relive forever and ever

I am not sure many people can say on the day they marry their best friend, they also get a rap from the Maid of Honour and an organised flash mob. Myself and Jack count ourselves to be beyond lucky and grateful to have the love and support from all our friends and family, not only on our day but for the rest of our lives.

I do love a good old fashioned castle wedding so when Abi and Johnny invited me a long to capture their special day at Rowton Castle, I was absolutely thrilled. To say it was a wonderful day is truly an understatement, it was all that and more. Just perfect in every way. Abi decided she wanted me for her wedding many moons ago....in fact, here's what Abi wrote in her review for me.

Phil has been incredible.  He photographed someone I knew and I was so amazed by his images that I stopped looking for a photographer there and then. That was three and a half years before I got married, and a year before I got engaged. I booked him second to my venue and before the registrar's!
When we met Phil, immediately I felt at ease and felt a connection - I knew our images were going to be something special. And boy, Phil doesn't disappoint!
We had a few meetings at both my parents house (where I was getting ready) and at our venue and throughout Phil has brought passion and excitement. His energy is infectious, he's insightful and considered too which builds trust that he is THE expert.
On the day, he was brilliant. Fun, excitable but professional throughout. Although, we were instructed to ignore him it's hard when he's so much fun! He got the best out of everyone and all our guests praised his attitude and energy, nothing was too much trouble and every image he put his mind to capturing garnered his full concentration.
His love of what he does oozes out of him and it's his passion that infiltrates his images. They rise above a 'wedding photograph' and transcend into art, art that you can be lucky enough to have grace your walls. I consider myself very blessed to have stumbled upon his work.

Thank you Phil, we are forever grateful.

Such kind words truly do make my day, I can only hope the images below will give you a flavour of Abi and johnny's big day, for more information about my Rowton Castle weddings, please do get in touch.

In the meantime, here are a few selected images from their special day, please be sure to check out the slideshow too.

An old friend called me a few months back to tell me he and his gorgeous bride, Mags, were to tie the knot. How could I refuse his call to action, being an avid photographer, Rob was set on exactly who should be taking his wedding day photographs and simply said...."I want the best Shropshire wedding photographer....and that's you." Who am I to argue!

2019 The Year So Far

Let's take a little look at the year so far. What a stunning year it is turning out to be too. Kicking off at the ever amazing Mill Barns where I am so proud to be a recommended supplier, and also back to Combermere Abbey for some really amazing times with an American groom and English bride. A truly international affair, then over to Liverpool to the wonderful Mere Brook House with a gorgeous couple whose day was crowned with the most spectacular rainbow alongside the Mersey River. What a truly amazing day that was.

Earlier in the year I had another wedding with a family who have become firm friends....to this date I have captured two brothers, a Sister....A cousin and a friends wedding...this is one frame from the amazing windswept day of Els and Jack. Making a return to one of my firm favourite venues, the beautiful Soulton Hall, but a few miles from my hometown of Ellesmere in Shropshire.

The Wedding Industry Awards

There really has been so much beauty, so much drama so far this year, and to top it all off one incredible couple have also nominated me for this years Wedding Industry Awards. A big massive thank you to Abi and Jonny who were married at Rowton Castle just a few days ago. My latest wedding, at the time of writing, and what a day it was. All this on the back of winning Best Uk Wedding Photographer in another award ceremony, the 3rd English Wedding Awards. Another nominated award, I am so speechless I truly am. These are Abi's wonderful words.

"Phil is beyond talented, his work is proof of that and that's why we used him. But on meeting him and hanging out with him all day, he really became a part of our day. He's so friendly and gets everyone feeling relaxed so he gets the best out of them. He's professional throughout but you still feel he's friendly and genuinely cares."

This was my message to Abi just after her wedding when I started to download their images for safely backing up, and before I knew she had so kindly nominated me.

“Hello you...thank you so much for asking me along yesterday, it was just wonderful and I cannot express how honoured I was to be asked. I have just started to download the images and back them up.....as I did I wanted to see if I could spot an image that spoke to me....that said this is what Abi and Johnny say to me....in the short time I have gotten to know you guys...just one image....one single frame....that says to me...who you are.

Tough call.

one card of quite a few cards, a random card with just one section of the day, even more tougher.

Not sure if you'd agree with me, but this is the image. To me this speaks volumes hope it speaks to you.”

Bride and groom embrace at Rowton Castle wedding

I absolutely adore this image. It speaks about their love, the emotion and the closeness of bond these two hearts have, and I guess Abi and Jonny thought so too. So If this sounds like what you're looking for in a Shropshire wedding photographer, someone who captures the day in as natural and artistic a way as possible...one whose images will live beyond your wedding day, then please get in touch and let's have a chat.

Liverpool

What a glorious, albeit temperamental weather wise, day. We had sunshine, we had storms....then we had more sun. Totally amazing. The day started at Andrea and Dan's Liverpool home, before heading off to Mere Brook House. Their beautiful home is set right on the banks of the Mersey River. This was a stunning location as I am sure you will be able to readily see. The views from their home is just breathtaking. We then made the short walk to Wallasey town hall.

Then the heavens opened. I always say to my couples, fear not the weather, just be brave, and you will get some wonderful images. Dan and Andrea were just that, brave.

Mere Brook House

After we had eventually dried off....I truly got a good soaking. We headed of to Andrea and Dan's reception venue. The sun was shining by the time we arrived, and just by the main hall is a stained glass window. Dan and Andrea sat their briefly and this was one of the resulting images.

A bride and groom on their wedding day at Mere Brook House

A truly tender moment between Husband and Wife, one that really encapsulates my more artistic side. I honestly cannot thank Andrea and Dan for inviting me along to share their most special of days, I love working in and around Shropshire, but occasionally I do like to venture further afield too. Liverpool, Chester, Manchester, indeed anywhere in the UK. So if you are looking for that creative soul for your wedding. Please do get in touch.

In the meantime I will leave you with more images from Andrea and Dan's most beautiful of wedding days. Please do also check out the slideshow right at the end.
